The technology exists to improve fuel eficiency across the board by 5 to 10% easily and by as much as 20% and more! No reason why we don't have vehicles on the road that get 50, 70, 100 mpg and more!
You're right on the money, they need to exceed their mpg ratings! They could easily be getting 30 mpg right now, 35 mpg in another year and 40 quickly enough!
