After Isaac exposes oil, BP aims to dig it out

lubbockonline.com (AP) -- BP PLC said Tuesday it wants to aggressively clean up buried oil exposed on Louisiana's beaches by Hurricane Isaac's churning waves.

The company said it has asked for permission to dig deep into beaches and remove oil buried since a BP well blew out on April 20, 2010, leading to the nation's largest offshore spill and killing 11 workers.

But digging deep to remove oil can bring its own problems — it can be harmful to creatures that live on beaches or feed on them and it also may lead to erosion by loosening up sand. Erosion is a constant worry in Louisiana because the state is losing land at an alarming rate.

The Coast Guard said it was reviewing BP's plans. The cleanup was restricted mostly to the surface of ecologically sensitive beaches, such as those on national wildlife refug

Bobby Jindal, said the state was reviewing BP's deep-cleaning proposal. But he accused BP of not doing a good enough job in finding what oil remained along the Louisiana coast before Isaac hit." BP will never do 'enough' unless forced to do so.

If you haven't noticed, without wildlife there are no humans. The same toxic materials and pollution that kills wildlife will kill human life, as well. I would think that all that buried oil would also be a problem, that digging it up would help fix.

Let the state Biologist and the state Environmentalist determine if areas of the beach need to be dug out or not. Disturbing or disrupting sea and land life may be detrimental to their health and well being when exposed to more and more crude oil and disturbed deposits. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
